This information should be read in conjunction with the Article entitled Association Closure - The Way Forward (Part 2)
Following the decision taken at the 2018 AGM to dissolve the Association in September 2020, the Committee has put in place a broad plan to ensure that the Association is wound up in a structured and methodical manner. Important details on the various issues will be published regularly both on the website and in the Newsletter, but for information, the general plot is as follows:
Boy Entrant Memorial. We are currently in the process of agreeing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the National Memorial Arboretum to put a maintenance plan in place for our Memorial. It is a comprehensive agreement which will ensure the Memorial is well looked after in perpetuity. It is our intention to have the plan in place in a few weeks and we will monitor the quality of the service provided until Closure and indeed afterwards. We have been reserving money for this purpose and the cost, in the order of £12k, will be paid from Association Funds. Full details of the maintenance plan will be published as soon as the MOU is signed.
Memorial Days. Memorial Days this year and 2020 will be held as usual in July following the normal format. We are conscious, however, that the demand for places may be greater in 2020 and are looking for ways to accommodate that.
Reunion Weekend/AGM. The Reunion Weekend/AGM this year will go-ahead in the usual format on 6 to 8 September. There will, however, be significant differences in Reunion 2020 to be held in September as normal, with the aim of making it a suitable farewell! There will be the usual activities available on the Saturday morning but there will not be an AGM after lunch. In its place we are looking at providing a Review of the 26 years of the Association’s existence. It is intended that the Dinner will be slightly more formal, perhaps following the pattern of an RAF Dining-in Night. Afterwards a right old knees-up will end the evening in style. On the Sunday morning we will march as part of the Battle of Britain Service as usual. Finally, a Laying-up ceremony for our current Standard in the Station Church Cosford is planned for after lunch. If any member has a good and novel ideal to add to the final Reunion Weekend, please let the Reunion Secretary know.
